There is a general point here.

If any 'election' contract is defined in terms of a given candidate winning, and they don't (for any reason whatsoever including death), then I would say that the contract closes at zero.

I asked the question because nothing is as sure as death and taxes and atleast one candidate each from Auckland and Christchurch seems like he might just about konk it anytime. ( Not wishing, but just saying.)

Not sure about ChCh but I thought the Auckland contenders are both in good health or is John's flesh eatting bug back again?

Yep Anderton is well past his use by date. Brown had a heart attack 2-years ago and now looks fine, Banks having a "flesh eatting bug" is a bit over the top Landslide. The only bug Im sure Banks has is a ginger beer bug given his anti alcohol approach which isnt all bad.

They're all infected with ratepayer money eating bugs - that much is for sure.

Of course, there's precedent for death failing to prevent candidates from winning:

Mel Carnahan was elected by the great state of Missouri to the US Senate: [archives.cnn.com]

And if you want a local-body politics flavour:

A couple of months ago, Carl Robin Geary Sr became mayor of Tracy City: [www.abs-cbnnews.com]

As to Banksie buying, just come down to the level we are offering, there's a couple hundred of stocks there, if your so sure about Brown winning it shouldn't be a question selling at a slightly lower price... or are you wondering maybe there is something we do know...

Na thats mostly my stock I want to sell on Banks. I brought short a while a go and hope to bank some profit...as this stock has lost its fun without the Bankies buying boy around but happy to wait out for pay day as Banks is history coz people are over the C&R recycled dicks and company....Will hold onto Brown stock that was a gift smileys with beer

Someone is starting to buy Brown again....is the "insider" back again? Could be another poll coming out showing an increased lead!

Hold the press. Just back from a function and all the talk was Banks is going to pull out under the cloak of health reasons as his team are splitting.

Is this why you have taken your Banks stock off the market Create????? But yes something is up and someone is still buying Brown - does he have a sugar Daddy??

Could this latest bad news today damage Brown?

Re: Auckland Mayor 2010

PGC - yep bound to damage Brown IF they asked for a "made up" invoice as stated in article. If not it looks like another attempted beat up by C&R/Banks/Quax which will backfire and smell of desperation!
Re: Auckland Mayor 2010
June 13, 2010 09:27PM
Breakfast TV and the Herald today confirmed that its just dirty politics from C&R Quax/Banks team against Brown and their story about trying to forge a restaurant invoice has no legs. Looks like Brown will walk over Banks as Banks has surrounded himself with the likes of Quax and company as his dirty tricks brigade. Hasn’t he learned from last time he tried this which basically gave Hubbard the Mayoralty.

Can someone explain the 20+ gap? Surely the dirty tricks or increased media exposure cannot justify the gap!
Re: Auckland Mayor 2010

rumours I've been hearing are that Banksie could be replaced under the cover of health issues, by another less unpopular candidate while they still have the opportunity! No idea who and the whole idea seems completely daft to me & I'm not going to trade on that. Just a lot of speclation and stirring to me, I reckon its way to late to change horses already..
Re: Auckland Mayor 2010

Cannot beleive they would replace Banksie as he is a household name - with all the shit flying around who in their right mind would want the job replacing him.

Just read Metro article that says Banks would be replaced with David Kirk!!!!! Beam me up Scotty winking smiley

Another canidate has just put his name in the mayoral race "Colin Craig". He ran the anti smacking lobby group so is a good guy. Will most likely split Banks vote!
Re: Auckland Mayor 2010
June 22, 2010 08:17PM
I havent seen anything about Craig standing - if he does he wont take any of Banksie vote. He spent $450,000 and could only get 5,000 people along to his protest march!

@Sell

It was on the 6pm news last night. TV3 contacted Craig but he wouldn't confirm nor deny - apparently he's on holiday.

Thx defaultswap

Who is their right mind brought 181 Brown yesterday in the face of a Herald Poll that has Banks/Brown basically even?

only ... 5,000 people

Well heck, that's more people than I've ever managed to get along to a protest march! spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

True, but your campaign against sharp corners on cereal boxes never seemed to fire the public's imagination. eye rolling smiley

Interesting pattern over the last few months when you look at the volume graph on Browns stock. Activity of volume peaks about 5 days prior to Polling announcements. iPredict really is at the forefront of insider trading!

Auditor General has just reported that he will not take up Browns request to investigate his expenses. Obviously the AG can see this was a political beat up. Perhaps they can all now focus on some actual policy and concentrate on the "Ball" not the "Player".
