BROWN SAYS : Only Jesus Christ had withstood such a high level of scrutiny as him, and come out clean.

In an an emotional interview, supercity mayoral candidate Len Brown has revealed that he considered pulling out of the race. If ratepayers demand that he identifies who he meets with, then he will quit as Manukau mayor. He has utterly refused to identify who he and mayoress Shan Inglis hosted at their table for an $810 fundraiser dinner at Volare restaurant in Manurewa.
He had good reasons for refusing to identify his guests, he said. "It is against my principles".

Happily married - Great couple. Our company brought a table at the mayoress charity ball in May. They raised well over $170,000 for Kidz First. They also dance well together.

Did each guest have to bring their own table to the ball or only you? Strange!

That clears that up! Did they sell or auction the tables or did you have to dance on top of them?

>try doing something for charity. you may find it rewarding

Do you know me? Anyway, I hope all the 'well over $170,000 money raised' did indeed go to the 'Kidz First' charity.

Browns Rant

Surely Auckland cannot vote him in?? (click the link and read that) and if not him then isn't Banks @40c a winner...???

Compare the paraphrase at the start of the Herald article with the real quote at the end.

"only Jesus Christ had withstood such a high level of scrutiny as him, and come out clean."

compared to:

"I'm under extraordinary scrutiny and maybe Jesus Christ was the only one to withstand that and come out completely pure."

To me that subtly and completely changes the meaning from 'only Jesus would come out clean' to 'me and jesus are comparable'

I think its completely misrepresenting him and the Kiwiblog post is taking it a step beyond.

Artist you are so naive. The Herald at it's best is just a tabloid without the benefit of page 3

As far as Mr Brown's concerned it may be wise to leave the Jesus stuff in the church.

He's coming across as a bit of a fanatical.

I don't really care where he spends his Sunday's but God and politics?

Auckland Super City latest mayoralty candidate is promising to donate half his salary back to ratepayers if he wins the top job. Property manager Colin Craig, who announced his intention to run today, said while he has not worked out how he will do it, he plans to give back $120,000 of the jobs salary to Aucklanders.

"It's time that those in leadership say 'hey, we're not just trying to take money off you'," he said.

Mr Craig is the leader of The March for Democracy - a movement which aims to make sure the government acts democratically.

He said he was prompted to run for the position after considering the other options available to voters.

"I see some real opportunities and some real risks for the Super City and looking at those and looking at the candidates I did not have the confidence that we will have a successful and optimum outcome," he said.

He said he was not aligned with any political parties and would run on issues like ratepayer dollars, local council initiatives and leaky homes.

"I think Auckland should be for Aucklanders - not an extension of the government. And I believe in keeping it local. The majority of decisions should be made by the local boards. A Queen St bureaucrat shouldn't be making local decisions."

Mr Craig said his youth and business experience will be beneficial in the role.

His property company currently manages approximately $1.3 billion worth of property assets in Auckland City.

Mr Craig joins former actor Simon Prast, Auckland City mayor John Banks, Manukau mayor Len Brown, water campaigner Penny Bright and comedian Ewen Gilmour in the race to lead the Super City.

Really, theres such an opportunity for a decent 3rd major candidate who can capture the publics imagination, surely theres some budding ego out there wanting to get stroked and earn a reasonable salary!

With all the media rubbish last month who in their right mind would want it. To win you need to win the South - Browns base is too strong. See in the Herald this morning CBD CEOs don't want either - thought that Banks would have their support. Credit to both canidates at least they are standing. Put up or shut up comes to mind!

Just a guess but....

South Auckland (exc the 'educated' suburbs around Howick) will vote for Brown.

West Auckland will vote against Banks.

North Shore will vote against Banks.

Auckland Central will vote Banks.

Come about Jan 2011, everyone except South Auckland will realise their mistake, and wish they had voted differently, then realise that they had no viable candidate to vote for anyway.

Come about Apr 2011, everyone except South Auckland will start to agitate for central govt controls to stop the 27% rate rises on all properties worth more than $500k.

Come about Oct 2011, John Key will make it Nat party policy to limit rate rises to inflation + 1.5%, will win all the votes in Auckland, and Sir Len Brown (as he will be about to become) will be lauded for his political savvy and getting the Nats re-elected nationally.

When asked about it, he will say, "Huh?"

Alan.
