so what just caused the massive dip in Anderton's price? One trader offloading his stock at rediculous levels ($0.17 - $0.22)???

Jim Anderton {...} now says he would consider quitting Parliament if he wins the mayoralty because the southern city needs a full time mayor in the aftermath of the quake.

"he would consider..." what the hell. Anderton said he was too busy helping people following the quake and would make the decision later.

Pfft.

Bob says council lost court battles to stop development on dodgy land

Classic buck passing, he should stump up with specific examples I think and as to why the council could not have zoned the land to prevent it.

One problem councils have is that they cannot legally choose to change zoning as it may suit them. If a development proposal meets all the requirements of the law then a council is pretty much stuck.

We have had an ongoing problem here in Kapiti of simply not having enough currently available water to support continued residential development yet if a developers proposal meets all the legal requirements and is within the current zoning then council can't stop it.

Changing zoning often takes more time than a development does and can cost a council a lot of money in compensation. On top of that, when word gets out that a council is considering changing the zoning the developers will often move fast enough to get their proposals through.

Yet he then told the Press Association he never said that.

"I've made no such comment.

"I'm concentrating on things that need to be done, there are urgent things here and survival of people and the terrible problems they've faced are our number one consideration, I haven't thought about that and I'm not going to comment on it now."

An emotional Mr Anderton told NZPA he was concentrating on helping people and was appalled by stories about his possible mayoralty.

"You should come down here and then you'll understand it. We've had 200 aftershocks and I've got people buildings all around me going down, I've got people in trauma, I've got people in my office crying their eyes out. Have you experienced any of that?"

Dammit Jim you're not helping yourself much here! This election should be postponed, how can you possibly have a fair election when the only two candidates that matter are not interested in an election!

Haha sleemanj i love it, I can see you and Anderton on the big screen, towards the end of the epic 'Christchurch:The Earthquake' movie...

You: Dammit Jim, get a grip! Snap out of it man! The people need you!

Jim: Wha.. noo.. there's too much to be done... so many tears... the buildings, oh the buildings you should see them...! They're falling! all around me!

You: *slaps Jim across face* come on man! if you don't do something that snake Parker will win!

Jim: Huh, what?! You're right! I must save the city! crying children and old folk will have to wait! The City Needs Me!

I'd prefer it in black & white, or as play at the court theatre now that i think about it, with lots of over-acting. Jim would storm into the civil defence building (wearing overalls) flanked by indignant old folk wielding brooms and underfed children, and unveil the clean-cut smooth talking Bob Parker (in a suit) for the evil hiker of council rents and stealer of underprivileged babies toys that he is. Just an idea.

sorry, 'wielding' brooms, like pitchforks but without the potential for violence. You'd want to drum up some socialist revolution type imagery. red bandanas that type of thing. this is Anderton we're talking about right.

Jim Anderton was born 1938 , Bob Parker I believe, was born in 1953. At a time time when I think a city could with with some potential for stability of tenure, I wonder who's likely to have most time left on the clock?

Supposedly at 13:41 somebody bought 70 stocks for 0.998, after buying 100 for 0.96.

The only explanation that makes any sense is that someone was confused about what they were doing. Even if you had a magical way of knowing the future you wouldn't go buying stocks for 0.998 when the going rate is around 0.7.

"Neither Bob Parker or Jim Anderton for mayor" is underpriced, especially if Bob gets taken out in another earthquake.

Sounds like Bob is already back to his old tricks making executive decisions, this time he's appointed an architect as an "architectural ambassador" (to oversee architectural aspects of the rebuild), no consultation, just did it.

Maybe we should have "BOB.DECIDE.MAYOR - Short Description, Bob Parker to decide he will be mayor and no election is necessary."

"Architectural ambassador". I hope it's not Peter Beaven. The man wouldn't know progress if it slapped him.

Ian Athfield did I hear on RNZ? - Isn't he the man avidly wedded to the heritage value of dwellings made of concrete pipes?
