Of course it will be in the budget, but that dosen't mean it has to be this fiscal year.
Incidently I'll be at the budget - so I'll know early but won't be able to do anything about it.

Surely with major changes like this you really need to wait for the start of the next tax year (ie April 2011).
They will be looking to make all the changes in one hit, in my opinion. Remember the package has to be fiscally neutral and they don't want to be messing around with progressive adjustments to different rates throughout the year. That would be a nightmare - even for the accountants

Yea and they revised June up. I thought it would have been funny had they revised June down to a negative.
Nevertheless, this is the first contract I have activally traded on for months and I made a profit so not complaining.

Random that its not up on thir site yet - came on Bloomberg at 3:00 sharp
When you think about it is not surprising that it was realitivly flat this month, not a lot has changed. I had bought a few Higs as insurance though due to the 'recovery effect'.

I think Goff being rolled before 2011 is possible but unlikely.
Sure Goff is floundering, but who else would want to lead Labour right now? Those with leadership asperations will most likely be happy to let Goff suffer the next election defeat before mounting their challenge.
A leadership change would not deliver a win in 2011, and the Labour party knows it.
EDIT - Of course this discus

I agree. I doubt very much Goff will ever be prime minister, which is a shame really. As labourites go he has a pretty good head on his shoulders.
National will win next time, Goff will be rolled and then National may be able to squeeze a third term if they are still sweet with the Maori party before a new labour leader strides in. Its just politics.

Like I said, been wrong before. But there is no way you can convince me that, had those polls been elections, National's actual support went from 56.5 to 51.5 back to 57.5 within a few weeks. They need a larger sample size!

Part of me thinks some traders have the poll in their hands already, with the way the prices on all six stocks moved at once.
But on the other hand, on the rare occasion that I have got concrete information before the market, I tend to bid things to almost $1 (or short all the way to 0). There is still a lot of money to be made if you really did have insider information, which makes me wonder

Yea but if they had cut two days earlier as our calculations (and the AA) were saying they should, I could have turned $5 into more than $400.

Yea I still think we will see a cut but unfortunately its getting a bit late for those of us long on lows for September.
Dam those hold-out petrol companies.

Looks like this debate may be purely academic anyway:
This version of the law would not see the contract pay out.

Exactly why it needs to interpreted as written. Do you think the intent of the Fiji contract was to have it pay out when the guy is still very much in controll?
A better wording could have been:
1: At minimum

I was about to write a post agreeing with Taurusport, but after reading the definition several times, I can't see how this contract can close at $1 if interpreted literally.
This is the critical part:
"a "three strikes requirement" means:
1. The definition of serious violent offense (or equivalent wording) in the bill includes, at a minimum, murder and attempted murder.

I'm guessing it will probabily close today, Admin? There is no set time for a stock to close it is just when they get around to it, so I wasn't holding my breath for it to close over the weekend.

Rants, Raves, Off Topic
All in all its going to be a tough call, but the bottom line is that if there are no further movements then low will win (I sold all my "very lows" yesterday at 50c after buying for just a few cents each).
I think I'll keep out of it for now, the petrol companies are almost certianly going to sit on their hands for a few days now, and then the question will be:
- Have prices and t

Yes most of those organisations had people at the meeting and heard him say that a further cut in the official cash rate would not have made any difference to the dollar. The last one did not even though 50 was on the high side of market expectations.
this statement is referred to in the Herald here

As I said on the other thread, still money to be made shorting sub 2.5 in my opinion.
Of course the only reason I am going on about it is because I already shorted some at 70 and I want them to move closer to fair value before I cover.

of course I'm biased as I shorted a bunch at 70 cents this morning. Already done ok out of it

I think there is still money to be made shorting these, he pretty much said at the press conference that he is done cutting unless things get significantly worse than expected (despite saying there was room for rates to move "moderately lower" over the next few months).
He has said in the past he is not into stopping and starting and he also seems concerned about another housing bubb
