Hi admin - I presume there's a reason for the survey (e.g. risk/determination of choice)? Will your findings be published?

Not to mention what iPredict's findings are as to our decision-making processes...

Cheers Alan - seems to work so far (and hopefully will tomorrow!).

Quite possibly this is a (caching?) issue on my end, but it seems that every time I come to iPredict, it requires me to log in again, rather than remembering me for two weeks (which I tick every time!).
I bookmark directly to my Portfolio page, and I'm pretty sure I updated the link following the latest upgrade.
Any tips? Thanks for being on top of all of this admin, it's a terrific servic

Of course, given those figures, "72% of voters surveyed want MMP dumped or changed" could also be written as "65% of voters want an MMP based-system".
Good ol' statistics and words.

Looks like this has popped up again (for me at least).

Bug Report
Could have been the pollsters taking a gamble. But that news alone is hardly sufficient to bump it 20%, I would have thought.

I like that the interpretation section is longer than the operative section. Some good lawyers must have been involved :-)
I'm aware that iPredict cannot offer trades on (e.g.) sporting events - although at the moment I can't for the life of me find your previous posts on those restrictions. Did the Commission spell out precisely what can and can't be traded, other than "political, busi

No idea. Look like they're settling back down though, so a decent opportunity to make a quick buck presumably.

Indeed. It was a happy coincidence of me (a) forgetting to clear all my old standing orders and (b) having a decent amount of cash around for want of something to invest in.

Absolutely. A pleasant surprise for me, having long abandoned any notion that someone would buy down that low!

LaxTrade, you suggest that iPredict hire you to make decisions... because you propose to make decisions hastily, on a simple basis, without research or taking into account the views of the people who are members, and possibly going against the true meaning of the contracts?

Thanks admin for the prompt action.
I hate to throw punches after the bell, but I don't necessarily agree with the following (from the blog):
Even if today’s announcement is for two official names, to allow a distinction as relatively trivial as the use of the singular in referring to two official names to change a contract’s outcome would in our view be manifestly unjust. The contract

Unless admin finds something that sways the contract towards WANGANUI or WHANGANUI, then I think we're all agreed that the operative definition here is whether BOTH is satisfied.
Key parts, assuming there's no official transition period:
For this contract to pay $1, the words Wanganui and Whanganui must appear in the official city name. The words may be in any order. Super/subscripted lette

But not Whanganui and Wanganui, which would say OTHER to me.

I agree that OTHER is looking like an excellent buy and BOTH is a fantastic sell.
Luckily, with the prices so close to 0 and 1 respectively, it's easy to get a relatively huge position on this :-)

I would place emphasis on pipe's quote from the BOTH judging criteria. That's the key here.
Looks like we might have another FIJI.PM on our hands

From Stuff:
had not been told by Mr Williamson what his decision was. "He's definitely kept it very close to his chest."
Aha! Williamson is our mystery trader!

Thought about that too, but this dampened my spirits somewhat:
The Herald understands his solution will be similar to the compromises that created Aorangi/Mt Cook and Mt Egmont/Mt Taranaki, making Wanganui and Whanganui official names.
It means people will have a choice of which spelling they use, but Government agencies will be told to start including the "h" as soon as they can.

mrh: Agreed. I'm just raising a point (given that I'm a public servant myself)
Oh well, lesson to be learned for me - only trade on issues in which the value of information available to me is greater than the value of information that isn't!*

This raises an interesting point. Certainly two groups of traders who have an upper hand here would come from Williamson's office or LINZ. If it's the latter, I wonder if they're aware of their obligation "never to misuse position for personal gain":

Someone must know something in order for CITY.BOTH to shoot up so dramatially. I'm choosing to ignore that reality and instead dine out on cheap CITY.WANGANUI stocks :-)

Re Taurusport: Yes, but none of those examples are corrections of 'mis-spellings' as appears to be the drive behind the current debate. (I accept that in the fuller list there may be more, but I haven't done my homework to check.)
I doubt that the Government would accept both on the basis that "Wanganui" is an English name for town - it's a misunderstanding of the Maori name.

Interesting. I assume that invalid votes will not be included in the preliminary results.

Just to make sure - are "informal" votes the same as "invalid/disallowed"?
If not, I would be wary about closing the 1-1.5 stock (if it comes up soon), as disallowed votes might yet be subtracted from the figures that Elections New Zealand reports.
There appears to be conflicting info on this point: the final paragraph of this page suggests that informal votes are disal
