Was just reading this article and noticed the following :
Quote

As of last night, betting on the Australian Securities Exchange put the chance of a rate rise at 27 per cent, up from 13 per cent last week.

I jumped onto the ASE website but I'm not sure where they got this info from? I can't find any info regarding betting on the rate rise? Maybe an economist can help me out, what data do they look at to establish if a rate rise is 27% likely?

+0.6 for the quarter, expectation was for +1.0

RBA expected to hold rates while CPI is at this level.

Could we please re-name this thread "RBA stocks"?

Kinda confused about the activity on this stock...all signs point to a 25pt rise and the four major Aus banks have all indicated they think this will happen as well, along with most other economists. Am I missing something?

Some futures markets reportedly priced in anywhere between 50/50 and a 60/40 chance of a rate hike after lesser than expected housing data came out yesterday....

I had switched to NC but after settling down I feel they could go on Tuesday and switched back.

Also, there was a substantial shorting of price for NC on betfairs "Financial bets" but that has since drifted again and it's a relatively small pot so I'm not sure how much weight can be taken from that.

It's a good watch right now and a great buy if your in the +.25 camp!

So the answer will be today.. ... any breaking news from anyone?
80c odd a share now.. overpriced?
Re: RBA 1 June

Yeah it's overpriced but if you think it's going to happen anyway what can you do. I had a big short position on it but have mostly got out now. drat and double drat.

RBA tipped to raise rates -5 hours ago

Interesting that they're talking about banks wanting to push rates beyond any rise. Could have implications for our floating rates in the near future.

Back in 2004, it was the reverse. I've had a horrendous run over the last four months... down about $1k I think. Still, it wasn't really my money to start with, so I guess I shouldn't complain eye rolling smiley

Crikey, I've haven't traded anything for the last month or so... finally decided yesterday to put some money to work on what I thought was an easy win... should've stuck to doing nothing...

dunno.. and will it have any affect on the AUD vs USD? $$
Re: RBA Announcements
October 15, 2010 09:51AM
Well maybe the RBA and the banks will play chicken for another round or two. Oh what fun.

CBA says brace for rates pain

Don't know how much the AUD vs USD is being influenced by local events over international ones at the moment. What people think the RBA will do may be moot compared to what they think the US is up to. For now. muwhahaha. tongue sticking out smiley

RBA: rate rise only a matter of time

I'm not convinced it'll happen at their next meeting though. Judging by the muted response of the AUD it would seem forex traders arn't either.

THE Reserve Bank (RBA) is likely to raise the cash rate to 4.75 per cent next Tuesday, despite a lower than expected headline inflation reading, economists say

I doubt it. Unlike every other country in the world Australia is in the enviable position where it can drive it's dollar down just by doing nothing. By talking tough but delaying a rise just that little bit longer (each time) they can retain some sense of control.

On the other hand, when are those aussie economists ever wrong confused smiley
